The Fool who Dares to be Chair

Greetings! I'm R. Graeme Cameron, newly elected Chair of VCON 41.

I'm a fan. Proud to be a fan. Ever since I can remember I've been addicted to that old science fiction "Sense of Wonder."

And I find that sense of wonder everywhere in the sf&f genre, in books, magazines, films, illustrations, comic books, games, costumes, fanzines, my fellow fans, anything and everything to do with SF&F. No elitist I am. I'm a generalist. I love EVERYTHING about the genre. It's ALL cool. And very exciting.

I plan to inject as much sense of wonder excitement into VCON 41 as I possibly can. NOTHING about a science fiction convention should be dull or boring. Leave that to the jaded stuffed shirts. I'm into fandom and VCON for the sheer fun and thrill of it. I intend to have an absolutely imperial time at VCON 41 and I want everyone else to enjoy it as much as I do.

Being a convention chair is not some dreary exercise filling in the blanks in some hoary, by-the-book list of cliches. No sir! I see being Chair as a splendid opportunity to craft a heck of a good time with the aid of innovative ConCom members and inspired attending pros and GoHs. Don't want anyone involved who has an "Oh cripes, not again" attitude. I want excitement, thrills, incredible innovation, opportunistic exploitation of inspiring possibilities and above all, a driving enthusiam which can barely contain itself.

Am I asking too much?

Just the essentials. The bare essentials. That's how I see it.
